Statue of Freedom

Located on top of the U.S. Capitol Building, the Statue of Freedom is made of bronze standing 19 feet and six inches tall, it weighs 15,000 pounds! It took 9,000,000 pounds of ironwork to create a dome strong enough to hold the statue. The statue depicts a female figure with long, flowing hair wearing a helmet with an eagle’s head and feathers. In her left hand she holds the shield of the United States with thirteen stripes. On her pedestal is a globe with the motto – E Pluribus Unum, which means “Out of many, one.”
