Francis Roth was the owner of the Dartmouth, one of the ships holding tea in Boston Harbor during the Boston Tea Party. He was warned by the Patriots to enter the harbor at his own peril but Governor Thomas Hutchinson would not let him return his tea to England. The governor stated that the tea must enter and the colonists must pay the tea tax. The colonists became furious at this, and the Dartmouth was one of the ships the Sons of Liberty attacked during the Boston Tea Party.
